Case Study:
Network Implementation for Small Legal Practice
Background:
A small law firm with three staff needed to implement a
network and systems to take advantage of web-enabled
applications, such as Landonline, provided by government
departments. There was no existing infrastructure or
reusable equipment suitable for the tasks at hand.
Requirement:
Provide a complete solution covering supply of products,
implementation, and training on new systems, with minimum
technical input required from the customer, ultimately
resulting in working web-enabled applications.
Solution:
The customer and application providers functional requirements
for equipment were analysed and a quote provided covering
an ADSL router, desktop computer, multifunction printer,
office software, and a managed security suite. After
full explanation of equipment needed all products were
ordered and consolidated at iTOPS prior to implementation.
An ADSL connection was organised and after this went
live the systems were taken onsite and setup. The ADSL
router was configured, the desktop setup on internal
network and its operating system and all applications
installed and configured appropriately, including those
required by the web-application provider. McAfee Total
Protection for Small Business, with desktop firewall,
antivirus and anti-spyware was installed and configured
to report any problems back to iTOPS enabling proactive
security. The multifunction printer was also setup on
the internal network and configured to replace the existing
fax machine which had reached the end of its useful life.
Once
all systems were operational and applications tested,
training was provided at a pace tailored to the customer.
